The article Medical Schools Neglect Gay and Gender Issues really just made me wonky. Perhaps it is because I am in the midst of losing my job in a medical office after a long horrific investigation of discrimination between my coworker and the medical director. Watching doctors pull colleagues personal lives and undisclosed gender identities out of the blue to use for their benefit. Seeing a group of doctors not think about the patients most importantly, but really not anyone but themselves. My foster kid, who is now a young adult, is a trans man and I from a distance support him while he struggles to find providers to prescribe the testosterone he needs for his medical condition per the American Medical Association. The time I spend helping people fight their health insurance companies to cover transition related costs.
In the article it states, ""it’s difficult for medical schools to find experts qualified to teach." Well who better then the people who know best. The ones receiving the poor treatment from their providers. The ones who lack the fancy educations and good jobs due to being so marginalized and lack of legal protections. That is the answer. I am not sure why such educated people cant think about the simple and obvious answers.
