Earlier this week I was watching WBZ news and I saw an undercover report from the I-Team. The I-Team did an undercover investigation on the Framingham building commissioner Michael Foley and what they uncovered is shocking. The thought of a public official abusing their position and stealing our hard earned taxpayer dollars, especially, during such difficult economic times. It just makes my blood boil!
Michael Foley the Framingham building commissioner earns over $90K per year and an investigation by WBZ found that he repeated lied on his expense reports, charged inconsistent permit fees and golfed every week during working hours. Mr. Foley would charge different permit fees for identical projects. He charged Whole Foods $5,000 for permits but the gym that he attends got a much reduced rate when they had a project. He repeatedly waived or lowered permit fees for friends. Plus his expense reports were padded so he was getting hundreds of additional dollars every month. He would lie and put down mileage on days he was not even working. On the days he did work he put in for mileage way above what he actually traveled.
I cannot even imagine why someone would think this abuse of our tax money is acceptable. This guy must have some ego to think that he could continue to abuse the system and not get caught. Anyone with half a brain would have thought twice about continuing these activities after the similar incident with Sheriff DiPaola but not this guy.
I think this type of behavior happens a lot more often that we know and maybe it is time we all start watching our own local public officials and asking more questions when things don’t seem to add up. We certainly have a right to ask the questions and we can always forward our findings and concerns to our local new stations to investigate. I think it is high time we end this kind of abuse.
